Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has ordered police officials to immediately withdraw the cases registered against Hyderabad Central University (HCU) students in connection with Kancha Gachi Bowli land issue.

The Deputy Chief Minister issued the orders after discussions with representatives from the University of Hyderabad Teachers Association (UHTA) and civil society groups at the Secretariat here on Monday.

Bhatti Vikramarka suggested that immediate steps be taken to withdraw the cases against the two students who are in judicial remand. He directed the Law department officials to provide appropriate instructions to the police officers to avoid any legal problems arising in the process of withdrawing the cases.

Ministers Dudilla Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who are Members of the Sub-Committee constituted to resolve the Kancha Gachibowli land issue, Meenakshi Natarajan, AICC in-charge for Telangana, Vamshi Chand Reddy, Special invitee from Congress Working Committee, Intelligence DG Shivadar Reddy, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Abhishek Mohanty, and officials from the Law department were also present in the meeting.

On the occasion, the Sub-Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the police presence to protect 400 acres of land is essential in accordance with the recent Supreme Court order.

They stated that the government will write to the UoH administration about its intention to withdraw the police from the rest of the campus, and subject to the assurance of the administration about security of the students and property of campus, the police will be withdrawn from the campus, except from the 400 acres of land.

In view of the order from the Supreme Court to prevent any activities and maintain status quo in the said area, the government will not be able to permit the survey by anybody including faculty and students until further Court orders.

The Committee is favorable to visit the campus as requested by the students, but in view of the ongoing Supreme Court case and possible controversy, the visit cannot be planned immediately. However, the Committee invites the students for a meeting to hear their concerns and suggestions.

During the meeting, the Ministers have taken due cognisance of other demands and suggestions made by the civil society groups and UHTA, and assured of acting upon them in consultation with the citizens groups.
